Year of Projects: Week Thirty Four

Just a quick update here as it’s been another slow week in terms of actually progress. My Boxy is coming along. I added a progress marker last Sunday so I could keep a track of things and I’ve definitely made progress even if it doesn’t feel like it!

My silks arrived ready for my silk spinning workshop next week. These are eri, mulberry, penduncle, tussah, sari, and silk hankies. I also made some progress with my 12 Days project, but I’m still quite a way off the plying stage there.

Luckily we missed most of storm Eunice this week but the terrible weather here has meant no gardening again. However I have now got my propagators ready to go so hopefully I can make a start next week even if I can’t actually get in to the garden.

  1. Your silk workshop instructor has probably already recommended you start sorting any dry skin on your hand. I did a silk spinning workshop last year during gardening season and used an emery board to get rid of lots of dry skin snags and moisturised my hands twice a day the week before and still my hands were snagging on the silk, especially the hankies. Well worth doing all you can to make them as smooth as can be before, as otherwise you’ll spend half the class unsnagging bits off you like I did. 😂. These will be beautiful spun up though.

  2. Funny how a little thing like a project marker can really make you feel like you’re making progress! That visual representation is so helpful – I like to use them as a motivator too 🙂 Glad you were able to avoid the worst of the storm. Looking forward to seeing your spinning – silk and otherwise – when you’re ready to share!

    1. I was starting to think it wasn’t growing any longer at all 😂 it’s nice to see it definitely is. I think I might just about hit the sleeve separation point by next YOP day.
